Veganism - A factual short
Veganism is something that is so current. I intended for my factual short to have ups and downs of emotion with each of the contributors playing the opposite parts. It covers the serious subject of slaughter houses but also features light-hearted conversations about the general love of animals. The intent of filming the two contributors together was to capture natural conversation and debate between the two. It brought the contrast of the opposing opinions together. It also allowed their natural relationship to unwind in front of the camera. As veganism can be a raw subject, I wanted the style of filming to tie in with this. I also filmed the first contributor predominantly from behind as I wanted to give the viewer the sense that they are getting an insight into their life or story. The intent was to be like we are following them or have been invited along in their daily life. I chose to feature my drone shot as my finishing sequence to the film because I thought it gave a nice finish. It captures the contributor walking along the sea-shore whilst capturing the view of the environment around. As veganism ties in with natural elements such as the environment I thought this worked well.
Rostrum
The rostrum film takes the viewer through a journey of my trip around Europe with just imagery and sound effects. Some of the sound was sourced from the BBC website and other sound was used from what I had captured on my travels. Aeroplane and train sounds had the intent of taking the audience on a journey into different places. Sound such as the horses hooves and music playing in Venice were sound that I had taken from footage I had captured on my travels. These sounds were used with the images to make the viewer feel like they are there at the place. I wanted to keep the movements of the images quite simple. The movement of the images gives emotion and gives the imagery life. It makes a still image become its own mini clip.
